Owned by the Falorni family, the San Piero d’Uzzano Estate covers over 30 hectares on the hills surrounding the town of Greve in Chianti.

This beautiful piece of land is mainly employed   to rear pigs which are used in the production of salami by the Antica Macelleria Falorni.

At the bottom of the valley there is also the vineyard which produces Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, as well as an olive grove for the production of extra virgin olive oil.

PIGS REARED IN THE WILD
THE "GRIGIO" PIG The San Piero d'Uzzano Estate, characterized by its extensive fallow fields and oak and arbutus woods is the ideal environment for the reproduction and growth of pigs reared in the wild. Initially created to save the Cinta Senese breed from extinction (a historical breed of black pigs with the characteristic of a white “Belt” on the upper part of the body), breeding was later integrated with the English "Large White" pig breed, giving rise to a crossbreed of "Grigio" pigs. This type of pig was widespread in Tuscany, but in the middle of the last century it risked extinction; the Bencistà Falorni family has helped with its rebirth and now has a hundred beautiful specimens bred in the wild. The "Grigio" (which means grey) pig takes its name from the colour of its greyish-pink skin and is characterized by a particularly tasty meat, ideal for the production of the precious "Prosciutto di Grigio" ham, for which the Antica Macelleria Falorni boasts major awards.
